SPF Showdown: 15 vs 30 vs 50

Hey there!

It's that time of the week again.. Esthetician Tip Tuesday!

Today, we're diving deep into the world of SPF.

Ever stand in front of the sunscreen aisle, eyeing bottles of SPF 15, 30, and 50, unable to make heads or tails of what those numbers mean? To put it simply: it’s not that serious.

Here's the low-down:

SPF 15: The bare minimum. It's blocking about 93% of skin-burning UVB rays. That leaves 7% to still cause some damage.

SPF 30: Now we're talking! A big step up from SPF 15, it keeps at bay around 96.7% of UVB rays. A definite thumbs up, but remember, proper application and frequent reapplication is key.

SPF 50: Often the 'Rolls Royce' of sun protection. SPF 50 keeps out about 98% of UVB rays.

So, what about those numbers greater than 50 make you feel like you’re invincible?

The extra protection you get after SPF 50 is quite minor. It's like paying double for a concert ticket for a 2% better view. Doesn't make much sense, does it?

Ultimately, no sunscreen can block 100% of UVB rays. Whether you opt for SPF 30, 50, or higher, what truly matters is using enough sunscreen, applying it properly, and reapplying it every 2 hours (or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating).

An easy way to reapply SPF on a daily basis is using PerfectTint Powder SPF 40 by iS Clinical. It comes in 5 different shades, from ivory (translucent) to deep, making it perfect for invisible application or a nice contour over makeup!
