LAST CALL! Peel Season is Coming to an End
Why you’ll need to book your last peel before it's too late
Longer days and warmer weather does come with a trade in: the end of peel season. This level of skin revision has a short, annual lifespan and it’s for good reason.
At MNA, to ensure your skin's safety and optimal results, May 15th marks the end of our peel season. SO, until the fall…R.I.P. (Remember-Ing Peels).
What Does a Chemical Peel Actually Do?
A chemical peel involves applying a chemical solution to the skin, which causes controlled exfoliation. However, this process goes beyond simple shedding. The chemical solution, which can contain acids like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), or trichloroacetic acid (TCA), breaks down the bonds between dead skin cells. This breakdown enables the dead cells to loosen and eventually slough off.
The depth of the peel, and consequently how much skin is removed, depends on several factors, including the:
Type of chemical: Different acids have different strengths and penetration abilities.
Concentration of the acid: Higher concentrations lead to deeper peels.
pH of the solution: A lower pH increases the peel's strength.
Application technique: How long the solution is left on the skin, how much pressure is applied, or how much manipulation is involved
In response to this controlled exfoliation, the skin undergoes several changes:
Exfoliation: As the outer layers of skin are removed, the skin appears smoother and brighter.
Inflammation: The chemical application triggers a controlled inflammatory response. This is part of the healing process.
Cellular Turnover: The peel stimulates the skin's natural process of producing new cells. This increased cell turnover helps to replace damaged cells with healthy ones.
Collagen and Elastin Stimulation: Deeper peels can stimulate fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen and elastin. Collagen provides firmness, and elastin provides elasticity to the skin.
The overall result is smoother skin, a reduced appearance of wrinkles, improved skin tone, and minimized acne scarring. Because chemical peels are a powerful tool - and if done right, truly transformative - consulting with a professional is essential.
Why Peel Season Has Its Limits
While chemical peels can be extremely beneficial for transforming your skin, certain types, particularly medium to deep peels, are best performed during the cooler months. Common medium to deep peels used at MNA are TCA based, like GlyMed's Vitamin A Professional Peel and our TCA 15% peel, great for addressing concerns like acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and significant signs of aging.
However, these treatments in the warmer months, with an increased chance of sun exposure and heat, will not yield these same results.
Chemical peels, by their very nature, exfoliate the top layers of your skin, making you more sensitive to the sun's harmful UV rays. This increased sensitivity can lead to hyperpigmentation (dark spots), sunburn, and even scarring if proper sun protection isn't diligently followed.
Heat can also be a contraindication for certain peels. Increased body temperature and sweating can exacerbate inflammation and potentially lead to uneven peeling or other complications.
While in the winter your skin will yield a smoother, more even-toned, and rejuvenated appearance from a chemical peel, your skin can face potential damage and complications in the summer, including hyperpigmentation, prolonged redness, uneven peeling, increased risk of infection, and in rare cases, scarring.
So we can all agree that medium to deep peels are best left for the cooler months, but what about more gentle options?
What About Superficial Peels?
Superficial peels, which primarily target the outermost layer of skin, can still be performed during the warmer months. These are often used for maintenance to keep your skin looking fresh and radiant. However, even with superficial peels, strict sun protection is absolutely crucial. Fortunately, if you're craving that peel-like glow year-round, we have a safe and effective peel in any season: BioRePeelCl3, also known as BioRePeel at MNA.

What is BioRePeelCl3?
BioRePeel is an innovative, biphasic, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel that offers a unique approach to skin revision. It features a multitasking mixture of active ingredients including TCA, salicylic acid, tartaric acid, and lactobionic acid. However unlike traditional TCA peels, which can cause significant peeling, BioRePeel results in minimal to no visible peeling, and no downtime.
While BioRePeel is a superficial peel, it shows significant improvements to the skin's surface, imperfections, and accelerates cell turnover. Stimulating the reconstruction of collagen and elastin deep within the skin layer, results can be seen instantly and continue to improve over the following weeks.

Benefits of BioRePeelCl3:
Safe Year-Round: It's formulated to be safe for use in all seasons, without the risk of increased sun sensitivity.
No Downtime: You can go about your day immediately after the treatment, making it perfect for busy schedules. You can even apply makeup the same day!
Biostimulation: BioRePeel stimulates the skin's natural regeneration processes, promoting collagen and elastin production.
