On Accutane? Here's what you should know
A common question in the skin world is "What should I avoid while on Accutane?"
First off, you should avoid Accutane at all costs unless you’ve tried every possible solution, but I get it (not really).
Some people do not know that there are more effective methods to treating acne that do not have such harsh side effects on your body, like simply booking a consult with me so I can get you started on Face Reality Acne Bootcamp.
Accutane works by essentially shutting down your organs, altering your body’s normal function. Skin becomes brutally dehydrated and sensitive, especially the lips.
This change in your skin can make waxing dangerous. Waxing while on Accutane can cause severe skin lifting, and significant skin damage, including scarring.
Another thing to avoid while taking Accutane is harsh products. Avoid mechanical and harsh exfoliants, as they can irritate and dry out the skin further.
Sun protection is a non-negotiable. Your skin's natural defense against UV rays is now weaker, making it crucial to apply sunscreen daily. Your sensitivity to sunlight is beyond what it ever was. Especially in the summer, opt for a formula that's at least SPF 30 and reapply frequently, especially if you're spending time outdoors.
What about when you stop taking Accutane?
It's tempting to jump back into your old skincare habits, but patience is key.
Your skin remains sensitive for almost a year after Accutane, so be careful.
Talk with your skincare professional before adding new products to your current regimen.
Gradually reintroduce products, and always monitor how your skin reacts.
For a personalized Post-Accutane skincare plan, feel free to schedule a consultation with us!
